Connect Meta Ads to Nevian
Add Nevian's URL parameters to your Meta ads, so every click and every sale shows its campaign, ad set and ad.
What you need
- Access to the ad account in Meta Ads Manager with permission to edit ads.
- A Nevian workspace with an active plan for connecting ad accounts, where you are the owner, an admin or a member. Viewers can't add ad platforms or tracking links.
- The Nevian tracking script on the page your ad sends people to. See Connect your website to Nevian.
Steps
-
In Nevian, open Ad platforms, click Add ad platform when a connection already exists, and pick Meta Ads. Choose Facebook profile or Business Manager and complete the sign-in. Open the resulting profile or business card and turn on the ad accounts to sync. The card also has a secondary Tracking parameters section. See all connection paths, including a System User token.
-
Open Tracking links and click New tracking link. Give it a name, choose Meta Ads as the Ad platform, keep Direct as the tracking mode, enter your page in Landing page URL and click Create tracking link.
-
In the tracking link's Setup, step 2 Paste the URL parameters in Meta shows a string that starts with
btc=. Click Copy.
-
In Meta Ads Manager, open the ad (a new one or Edit on an existing one). Under Destination, keep the Website URL as your page alone, with nothing after it.
-
Under Tracking, paste the string in URL parameters. If you use Build a URL parameter instead, paste it there and click Apply. Then publish the ad.
-
Back in Nevian, open Logs › Clicks after the ad's first clicks. Each click shows the tracking link and, under it, the Meta ad it came from.
Check that it works
- In Logs › Clicks, click a row: the Meta section shows the campaign, ad set and ad, and UTM parameters shows the values Meta filled in.
- Live view shows each visitor the moment they land, with the tracking link and the ad.
- To bring in spend at ad level, connect your ad accounts too. See Connect your Meta ad accounts to Nevian.
Problems
Clicks show "No ad data" or no Meta ad
The click reached your page without the parameters. Open the ad again and check that the string is in URL parameters, complete and starting with btc=. If the ad uses site links, turn off Apply site links in Creative setup: clicks on a site link open another page and don't carry your ad's IDs.
Reports show {{campaign.name}} instead of the name
Meta only fills its dynamic parameters on real ad clicks. A link opened by hand, or copied from the editor, keeps them as text. Meta's list of dynamic parameters also notes that some placements and formats don't fill them.
A renamed campaign keeps its old name
Meta sets {{campaign.name}}, {{adset.name}} and {{ad.name}} to the names used when the ad was first published. Nevian also keeps the IDs, so the numbers stay on the right campaign; connected ad accounts refresh the names.
Adding parameters to a live ad
Meta says that changing URL parameters after you publish may send the ad set back into the learning phase. Add them before publishing when you can, or to a duplicate of the ad.
Campaign names with the | character
Nevian reads each value as name|id. A | inside a campaign, ad set or ad name splits it in the wrong place, so avoid that character in your names.
