Connect Taboola to Nevian
Add Nevian's parameters to the tracking code of your Taboola campaigns, so every click and every sale shows its campaign, item and publisher site.
What you need
- Access to your Taboola Realize account with permission to edit campaigns.
- A Nevian workspace where you are the owner, an admin or a member. Viewers can't add ad platforms or tracking links.
- The Nevian tracking script on the page your items send people to. See Connect your website to Nevian.
Steps
-
In Nevian, open Ad platforms and click Taboola. In the Connect Taboola window, choose Add tracking parameters, click Next twice and then Done. The parameters it shows are the Taboola part; the tracking link you create next puts its own
btc=in front.
-
Open Tracking links and click New tracking link. Give it a name, choose Taboola as the Ad platform, keep Direct as the tracking mode, enter your page in Landing page URL and click Create tracking link.
-
In the tracking link's Setup, step 2 Paste the URL parameters in Taboola shows a string that starts with
btc=. Click Copy.
-
In Taboola Realize, edit the campaign (or create a new one) and scroll to the Tracking section at the bottom of the page. Replace everything in Tracking Code with the string, then save the campaign.
-
Back in Nevian, open Logs › Clicks after the first clicks. Each click shows the tracking link and, under it, the item it came from.
Check that it works
- In Logs › Clicks, click a row: UTM parameters shows the campaign, the item and the publisher site Taboola filled in.
- Live view shows each visitor the moment they land, with the tracking link.
- Taboola applies the campaign's tracking code to every item in it, and changing it there doesn't send your items back to review.
Problems
Values look wrong or doubled
Taboola asks you to set each parameter in one place only: the campaign's Tracking Code or the item's URL, never both. If your item URLs already end with ?utm_source=… or similar, remove those parameters and keep the string in the campaign.
The address has tblci twice
Taboola adds tblci={click_id} to every ad URL by itself, and Nevian's string carries the same value so the click ID is always there. Both copies are the same click ID; you don't need to change anything.
There is no ad set in the reports
Taboola has no ad set level: items belong directly to the campaign. Nevian shows the campaign, the item and the publisher site, which helps you block sites that don't convert.
